MR. ED’S TIPS:
Prune Bougainvilleas
Now is the time to prune your Bougainvilleas whether they be in the ground or in a container. Those in containers should be repotted each year (use the same guidelines as in the Fuchsia Care Guide).
Bougainvilleas in the ground should be pruned hard, back to at least one foot less than their desired height and width. Add additional support if needed. The "flowers" come on the new growth so hard pruning will encourage new growth. A few handfuls of Master Nursery Rose Fertilizer once a year at this time will be all the plant needs (fertilize potted plants very lightly once a month except November, December, and January). If your Bougainvillea froze to the ground this year, wait until mid-July before giving up on it.

The evergreen or deciduous Viburnum opulus is a popular shrub that is prized as flowering and foliage plants. The plants have showy or fragrant pink or white flower that bloom in spring through early summer. The large pink or white flowers in snowball-shaped clusters often cover the whole plant. Protect from direct sun where summers are long, hot and dry. Water regularly during growing/blooming season, less at other times. Mulch to keep roots cool and moist. Prune to keep plants in shape.

Question, answer, and winner from March 5th
edition:
Question: How deep should the water in your birdbath be?
Answer: The optimum depth of water in a birdbath, says the Audubon Society of
America, is two and a half inches. Less water makes it difficult for
birds to take a bath; more makes them afraid.
This week's winner: Cherie Stachel
