Quotation of the Week:
"Yes, in the poor man's garden grow Far more than herbs and flowers. Kind thoughts, contentment, peace of mind And joy for weary hours."
— Mary Howitt |

From hanging baskets to colorful containers and garden beds, the plants we choose are a reflection of our personal style. The outdoor living space surrounding our homes has become a haven in the fast-paced life we live on the Peninsula. The trends in container gardening are ever changing, and at Wegman’s we have an amazing selection of pottery and containers to suit every lifestyle.
To help you fill those containers with interesting combinations we have invited Kyra Pehrson, garden designer, to do container pot demonstrations showing you how to choose interesting container and plant choices—Saturday, June 3 from 1 to 3pm.
Containers and Pots
Creating distinctive container gardens is easier than ever with the new choices in both pots and plants. Color is key in pots, plants and foliage. Use three or more complementary sizes and shapes of pots in a group to make a statement on your patio or porch. See the Hot Container Combos following this article.
All Kinds of Color
Mixing annuals, perennials, herbs and shrubs gives container gardens a unique look. From traditional annuals such as geraniums and petunias, to unique choices like coleus and cannas, we have all the color you need in flowers and foliage to suit any style.
Another trend for 2006 is the mono-pot. Create high impact by planting one type of plant in a beautiful container where the pot and plant showcase each other. Another thing to consider would be to group three mono-pots with complementary plants in each pot for a big ‘wow’ statement!
Hot Container Combos For 2006
A note about these combinations—These combinations contain both shade and sun plants. They will look great during the summer and will need to be replaced for the fall.
